Writings / Ideas / Adventures from Deirdre Evans-Pritchard

Deirdre Evans-Pritchard describes herself as a translator: between cultures, mediums and creative spaces.  This blog, The Deepot, is a depot for D.E.E.P to have some deep thinking about all these things—and really anything else that her research or travels uncover. She is writing a book and developing an interactive exhibition on the meanings and role of the Screen on our perception, our lives and the perception of our lives. She also researches visual literacy and the life of the philosopher Plato.

Deirdre was trained in narrative and folk arts at UCLA and in that capacity has organized events, curated exhibitions (Dress Codes: Urban Folk Fashion at the Smithsonian Institution and Barbie at The Craft and Folk Art Museum), published, and taught on traditional arts and their role in modern-day US culture and society.  Later, she worked for the Department of State Fulbright Program to increase cross-cultural understanding. Deirdre also spent years integrating film programming and communication strategies into higher education.  Projects included: Kidding Around: The Child in Film Conference and DC Meets Delhi Arts Festival, shaping documentaries for A&E and The Learning Channel and programming for UDC’s Channel 98.  As Executive Director of the DC Independent FIlm Festival (DCIFF) since 2012,  she has worked to make the organization responsive to and relevant to filmmaking and filmgoing communities. She was a  two-time Senior Fulbright Scholar to Lebanon, visiting faculty at the University of Southern California’s Center for Visual Anthropology and adjunct faculty at the USC Cinema School.
